The Museum Prize Trust

The Art Fund Prize is administered by The Museum Prize, a charitable company created in 2001 by representatives of National Heritage, the Museums Association, The Art Fund and the Campaign for Museums*.

These organisations agreed to put aside award schemes they formerly ran (including National Heritage’s Museum of the Year) and lend their support to this single major prize.

From 2003 to 2007 the main funder of the Prize was the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation UK Branch. The Art Fund has taken over sponsorship of the Prize from 2008.

The Trustees of the Museum Prize are:

  • Penelope, Viscountess Cobham
  • James Bishop (representing National Heritage)
  • Ylva French
  • Sandy Nairne (Art Fund nominee)
  • Mark Taylor (representing the Museums Association)
  • Sam Mullins

For the duration of its sponsorship, The Art Fund has observer status at meetings of the Museum Prize Board.
