The Hepworth Wakefield, Wakefield, West Yorkshire:
Designed by acclaimed architect David Chipperfield, Hepworth Wakefield opened in May 2011 following a £35 million development bringing together Wakefield’s art collection, exhibitions by contemporary artists and rarely seen works by Barbara Hepworth.
With over 1,600 square metres of light-filled gallery spaces, The Hepworth Wakefield is the largest purpose-built exhibition space outside London.
Simon Wallis, Director of The Hepworth Wakefield said: “We are delighted to be included in the longlist of museums for this prestigious award, which recognises The Hepworth Wakefield as one of the UK’s top ten museums and galleries.
The Hepworth Family Gift, major collection of sculptures, was donated to the museum by the Hepworth Family through the Art Fund in 2011; you can watch a film exploring the collection.
