People's History Museum

People's History MuseumIn 2010, after re-development, the new People's History Museum opened providing a unique centre exploring the world-changing ideas fought for by the working people of Britain and charting the nation's democratic history from the early 19th century to the present day.

The new People's History Museum presents a unique history of the campaign for democracy in Britain over the past two hundred years.

The museum's strap line is 'there have always been ideas worth fighting for' and the varied historic displays are intended to prompt debate and discussion amongst visitors on contemporary issues relating to the democratic government of the nation.

It is a true reflection of working lives and not the glorification of a small and priviledged group. I am gald that this history is now being taken into consideration as it is the history of the majority and not the minority.
Francine Allen, London

The museum is in a beautiful building next a canal and with great transport links. The staff are all very friendly and informative. The displays and the layout are informative and interesting. Social history and the politics of the labour movement are placed side by side in a complementary way.
Alexander Pritchard-jones, Shustoke

Excellent schools education programme, bringing the history of the fight of the working people to the attention of young people. This is the next generation of people who will challenge the stautus quo and take history forward.
Karen Turner, Manchester
